Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition - Extended Impressions

Following my original post a couple weeks back I have played through about ten hours of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition for the PC.

The game of course continues its over-the-top difficulty, and never for a moment ceases to let up.

The immediate thing I want to point out is that if you don't have this resolution fix; you need to get it, like right now. For some odd reason the game was capped at an awful 1024x720 resolution, even if you set it higher through the games [lousy] settings menus. That fix is also super easy to install and even people with little computer experience should be able to figure it out. If you can't give me a mention or DM on Twitter and I'll help you out!

The menus for the game are ATROCIOUS! The game is almost literally a direct port of the Xbox 360 version of the original game. From Software didn't even take the time to change the button icons in the game. [seen below]

The game has good performance provided you have decent hardware in your computer. The only major issue I have with the game is that you buy it from Steam and it has a Windows Live overlay too, making the signing in options very clunky since you have to sign in to be able to save. Have you ever used Windows Live for PC? No? You're a very lucky person.

The Blighttown performance issues are still present from the console versions of the game which is a disappointment considering how bad that area is to deal with. Framerate basically goes out the window making the area nearly impossible to play through.

I haven't reached any of the new content added into the Prepare to Die Edition yet but I will hopefully get into it soon and give more details. So far I am impressed with the port but playing with a mouse and keyboard is a little difficult, so I recommend grabbing a wired Xbox 360 controller or using your PS3 controller via MotionInJoy's awesome driver!! (That's what I use personally since it can emulate a wired Xbox 360 controller)

Vanilla ~.^

P.S. This post was to commemorate my new keyboard! A Leopold Tenkeyless 'Otaku' Keyboard by EliteKeyboards!
